Please follow the checklist below to insure you get optimal results from your print project.
Resolution
For best print results, make sure all the images in your project are at least 300 dpi. Images downloaded from the web may not be suitable for print. Remember that if you scale an image to make it appear larger, you will reduce the resolution proportionally and diminish the quality.
File size & dimensions
Make sure your file is sized correctly for your project. If you're making an 8-1/2" x 11" flyer, you'll want to make sure your file is sized that way.
Color
Make sure you are using the CMYK color space for optimal color output.
Crop & Bleed
Crop marks, also known as trim marks, are printed lines in the corners of your project that show the printer where to trim the paper. Crop marks should be offset from the image/content area by 1/8"
Bleed is the color or edges of an image that extend beyond the edge of where the sheet will be trimmed. In other words, the bleed is the area to be trimmed off. If images or colors bleed, be sure to include 1/8" bleed on all sides. Learn more about bleed set-up.
Fonts
When possible, send your pdf document with outlined fonts, or flattened. You can download university approved fonts from the IU Brand website.
Images
Be sure you're not using any copyrighted images in your project. Most images downloaded online are copyrighted.
Indiana University has a licensing agreement with the Adobe Stock image library, which is available for free to all IU students, faculty and stafff. In addition, members of the IU MarComm community can access a curated collection of more than 9,000 images on the IU Visuals portal. (Users who are unable to view and download assets after logging into the site, may request access.)
Spell check
Be sure to run spell check before converting your file. It is always a good idea to have a second (or third) pair of eyes proofread your project.
File type
Printing Services' online print ordering tool uses the PDF file format for printing your project. For best results be sure to upload your file as a print-ready PDF.
