Indiana University President Michael McRobbie awarded IU Document Services with the Indiana University Bicentennial Medal in January 2020 in recognition of the unit’s distinguished service.
“Document Services is receiving this Bicentennial Medal for its generous guidance and assistance with numerous bicentennial projects,” said the official statement accompanying the medal, “including but not limited to printing all of the medal certificates (sometimes with little warning and occasionally more than once) and assisting with the ever complicated and time sensitive bicentennial magazine. Not to mention all our stationary, envelopes, and notecards. Your hard work has directly impacted how both the university and the state view the bicentennial.”
Pam Fawcett, an IU Document Services staff member, also received a Bicentennial Medal for her individual service. “[Pam was] always a calm and reassuring person to talk to especially in times of crisis (of which there have been many over the last four years),” said the statement accompany her medal. “[She has] gone above and beyond to help our office run smoothly and meet numerous last minute deadlines. We are forever in [her] debt.”
The Bicentennial Medals were bestowed to organizations and individuals in 2020, Indiana University’s 200th anniversary year. Recipients were awarded for their personal, professional, artistic, or philanthropic efforts that broadened the reach of Indiana University across the state, nation, and world.
The medals were constructed from materials salvaged from bells hung for almost 100 years in the IU Bloomington Student Building. The medal was designed by Jeeya Kim, lecturer at the Eskenazi School of Art, Architecture, + Design.
