Does Document Services offer addressing and mailing?
Yes, we offer a full range of addressing and mailing options. Addressing labels can be printed and affixed to the mail piece or, a less expensive alternative to labels, we can inkjet addresses directly onto the mail piece. Campus mailing lists for Academic and Staff addresses are available for general use. We also prepare USPS mailings and can offer significant postage savings with nonprofit standard bulk mail.
Can my printed piece have variable data?
Yes, we offer variable data services. From personalized greetings to ID codes we are able to add variable data to your printed piece. Provide us with an InDesign file of your mail piece and an Excel file of the data and we will do the data merge.
Can I use a credit card for purchases?
IU Bloomington campus students can pick up orders placed at the Document Services office and pay with credit card on site. Orders from other campus locations please call 812-855-2727 for payment information.
What are bleeds, and do I need them?
Bleed is a printing term that is used to describe a document which has images or elements that touch the edge of the page, extending beyond the trim edge and leaving no white margin. When a document has bleed, it must be printed on a larger sheet of paper and then trimmed down.
We recommend setting your document to a minimum of 1/8” outside the final print size. For example if your final size is 8.5” x 11” then your document size should be 8.75” x 11.25” with bleed. Also remember to select a larger paper to account for the extra printing.
